Julie Hurn

Chair

I joined LWG six years ago and it has given me the confidence to call myself a writer.  Short Stories and Flash Fiction are my go-to, however, at present I am working on my first novel.  Listening to my fellow members work every month has inspired and challenged me to become a better writer.

Sylvia Smith

Treasurer

LWG has given me my motivation to write over the past 15 years.  Published works include a non-fiction book on acting, various articles, poems, a play and a children’s story.  I recently successfully self-published a collection of my work, which gave me the confidence to do the same with my memoirs.

Secretary

I am currently the group's secretary. I have been writing short stories and Flash Fiction for around 6 years.  My first published piece was a Flash Fiction story in the National Flash Fiction Anthology. I also enjoy writing & directing short science fiction films about time travel.

To date I've had one novel published with a second currently in production.  A marketing manager by day, writing has become a relatively recent hobby and getting a publishing deal convinced me it was a hobby worth persevering with.  I joined LWG in 2021 - a wide range of friendly supportive writers, sharing their own experiences and encouraging me to write and share short stories, flash fiction etc for the first time.

Although I began by writing for children, I now concentrate on short stories and poetry. If I had sufficient courage, I’d read my poetry at some Open Mic nights; instead I enjoy the support of our friendly group and carry on dreaming.
